Police in Mubende District have arrested four suspects in connection with the theft of a three-week-old baby boy, who was later rescued alive in an intelligence-led operation.
According to police spokesperson for Wamala Region Lameck Kigozi, the incident occurred on 25 April 2026 at around 7:00pm in Kitonzi A Village, Kitonzi Parish, Lubimbiri Sub-county, when the child’s mother, Ainembabazi Janet, left her home briefly to buy household items at a trading centre.

Upon returning home, she found her infant son, Sentume Dillan, missing, prompting a search with the help of neighbours before the matter was reported to Lubimbiri Police Station.
Police say a neighbour identified Sebuliba Yahaya as having been seen at the victim’s home around the time the child disappeared.
Sebuliba was arrested and allegedly confessed to the crime, revealing that he had been instructed by a woman identified as Nakacwa Jovia, a resident of Namagogo Cell in South Division, Mubende Municipality.
Investigations led to the arrest of Nakacwa’s husband, Ndayizeye Claude, who was taken in to assist police in tracing his wife.

He reportedly told investigators that his wife had deceived him into believing she was pregnant, regularly attending antenatal care, and later claimed to have given birth to a baby boy.
Kigozi explains that in the early hours of 26 April 2026 at around 5:30am, police conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kiruma Trading Centre, where Nakacwa Jovia was arrested at the home of Kababiito Sharon, where she had been hiding.
The baby was recovered alive and in good health, and was later reunited with his mother in what police described as a “jovial reunion.”
Kababiito Sharon, who had allegedly sheltered the suspect, was also arrested.
Kigozi confirmed the arrests, saying the case file is being prepared for submission to the Resident State Attorney in Mubende for sanctioning of charges.
He further urged the public, especially couples, to ensure transparency during pregnancy-related matters.
“We appeal to men to accompany their wives for antenatal visits to help detect such deceitful cases early,” Kigozi said.
