A 16-year-old girl kidnapped and held for ransom in Pallisa district has managed to escape and lead police to her captors.

The victim, Aguti Harried Vick, was intercepted by a male student on her way home from school on August 8, 2023. She was taken to her sister’s home, where she was confined and forced to call her parents and demand a ransom of money.

The victim’s parents contacted the police, who launched a search operation. The victim was eventually tracked down and rescued by a task force.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson says four suspects have been arrested in connection to the kidnapping, including a soldier, a peasant, a student, and a businesswoman. The suspects are facing charges of kidnapping for ransom and trafficking in persons.

The suspects include Pte Aguwa Justine Andrew, 29, a soldier attached to Ruhengeri, Okanya Emma, 28, a resident of Senior Quarter Cell in Pallisa Town Council, Okiria Constant,18, a student of Pallisa Secondary School, and Imoit Anna Florence, 26, a businesswoman from Kisenyi Cell in Pallisa Town Council.

Enanga says various items, including a toy pistol, bayonet, National ID card, and other evidence, were seized as part of the investigation.

Enanga states that the victim is in a good condition and is recovering from her ordeal. She is grateful to the police for rescuing her and is determined to help bring her captors to justice.

He has cautioned parents to be more vigilant in protecting children.

“We continue to warn teenagers, guardians and parents, about kidnaps for ransom targeting teenagers. The kidnappers are usually known perpetrators, who suiveil particular families that are better off, and gather information about them. As a result, they kidnap their loved ones and coerce the family members into paying a ransom quickly, to enable the release of the victim.” says Enanga
