Background

The National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARI’s) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at PARIs and NARO Secretariat.

Specific Duties Tasks and Responsibilities:

Identify causes of disease in livestock, including poultry.

Isolate, characterize and study the properties of the causative agents.

Determine epidemiological factors associated with the causative agents.

Develop appropriate control measures for the identified diseases.

Carry out disease surveillance and outbreak investigation

Design experiments for evaluating new medicines and vaccines.

Design and implement biosecurity and biosafety protocols for management of diseases on station and on farm.

Design and implement treatment for management of on station and on farm demonstration animals

Develop information materials for animal

Qualifications and Experience:

Applicants should hold an Honour’s Bachelors’ Degree in Veterinary Medicine plus Masters of Science Degree in Veterinary Medicine.

Should have three years demonstrated relevant working experience in a reputable organization.

Proven record of publication in referred journals will be added advantage.

Possession of a PhD is an added advantage.

Additional Details

The tenure of office is a 5-year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance.
