Position Overview

The Loan Officer will manage end-to-end loan origination, client assessment, portfolio growth, and customer relationship management. Based on-site in Kampala, the successful candidate will guide clients through the lending process, perform risk evaluations, handle documentation, follow up on repayments, and maintain continuous compliance with internal policies and financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Engagement & Advisory: Meet with existing and prospective clients to assess borrowing requirements, present suitable loan products, and guide applicants through the intake process.
  • Credit Assessment & Underwriting: Collect and verify client documentation, evaluate creditworthiness, conduct preliminary risk analysis, and prepare compliant loan files for approval.
  • Portfolio & Disbursement Management: Manage loan origination from initial inquiry through disbursement, maintain accurate digital records, and track repayment performance.
  • Customer Service & Compliance: Provide ongoing client support, handle inquiries professionally, enforce ethical lending standards, and adhere to institutional policies and regulatory standards.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Practical experience in loan origination and credit management. Prior experience in a microfinance institution, commercial bank, or lending company is a distinct advantage.
  • Technical Competencies: Strong grasp of fundamental finance principles, credit underwriting, documentation review, and basic computer proficiency/digital record-keeping systems.
  • Core Skills: Excellent customer service ability, strong organization, analytical attention to detail, high reliability, and an ethical approach to financial stewardship.
