Songstress Martha Mukisa has spoken about the emotional and professional challenges women face when they become mothers without adequate family or partner support.

Speaking from personal experience, Martha noted that female musicians often have well-laid career plans, but these are frequently disrupted by pregnancy. She explained that pregnancy naturally slows down work, limiting stage performances and affecting an artist’s momentum in the highly competitive music industry.
According to Martha, the real struggle begins after childbirth. Without strong support systems—from family, management teams, or baby daddies—many women find it extremely difficult to bounce back.
The pressure of balancing motherhood, mental health, and career responsibilities can be overwhelming, often pushing some into depression due to the lack of care and understanding.
“Under all that pressure, it becomes hard to recover after birth if you don’t have the right support,” she shared. “You need people who can take care of you mentally and physically.”
Martha used her story to send a strong message to women, urging them to make informed decisions about motherhood.
“I want to tell every female out there that a person should decide to give birth when they are sure they are ready—ready in age, financially, and with a supportive partner or baby daddy, team, or even family,” she advised.
She emphasized that her current stability is largely due to the care and support she receives, especially when it comes to mental well-being.
“I’m here right now because I have been taken care of. Not only that, but mentally, I’ve been given peace of mind—something you cannot have when you don’t have anyone on your side,” Martha said.
