Queen Rania was noticeably absent from this year’s Independence Day celebrations in Jordan, an event she usually attends alongside King Abdullah II.

The reason for her absence was shared personally by the Queen on Instagram, where she revealed she is taking a short rest following treatment for back pain.

Along with a heartfelt message, Queen Rania posted a photo of herself being comforted by her daughter, Princess Iman.

The caption read: “Happy Independence Day to our beloved Jordan! I always look forward to celebrating this day with His Majesty, but this year I’m tuning in from home after treatment for back pain — with my dear Iman kindly keeping me company.”

The official Jordanian royal family also shared a beautiful picture of King Abdullah II with their three children ahead of the ceremony, with the palace statement reading: “His Majesty King Abdullah II, with Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Al Hussein, Prince Hashem, and Princess Salma ahead of the 79th Independence Day ceremony at Al Husseiniya Palace. #Jordan #IndependenceDay79.”

News of Queen Rania’s back pain follows her husband’s recent health issue. Three months ago, King Abdullah II underwent surgery for a hernia.

The Royal Hashemite Court of Jordan announced: “His Majesty King Abdullah II underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday to treat an incisional hernia at the King Hussein Medical Centre. His Majesty was discharged after the simple procedure and is expected to resume his daily duties tomorrow. The Royal Hashemite Court wishes His Majesty continued good health and wellbeing.”

Amid these health concerns, the royal family has also enjoyed joyful moments. In February, Queen Rania and King Abdullah celebrated the birth of their second grandchild. Their eldest daughter, Princess Iman, and her husband Jameel Thermiotis welcomed a daughter, Princess Amina, on February 16.

Queen Rania shared the first precious photos of the newborn as the family met her at the hospital. Away from the public eye, Queen Rania embraces her role as a devoted grandmother, never missing an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren.

Shortly after the birth, the Queen wrote warmly:”Iman, you’ve already captured my heart. Our family has never been happier.”

Balancing her royal duties with family life, Queen Rania even shared a charming photo of her baby granddaughter joining her on a Zoom call during a work meeting, marking a royal first: “Baby Iman joined her first Zoom board meeting!”
